Speakers

Joanna Newton, Engineering Director, Reventas

  • Joanna Newton is Engineering Director at ReVentas and a Fellow of The Institution of Chemical Engineers. Her focus is delivery of ReVentas’ first commercial plant, and creating a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) culture within ReVentas and its sister companies which is Best in Class. Her 35 year-long career covers petrochemicals and the wider chemical industry, in both design and operation support roles, and she has developed and led award-winning teams. Jo is also on the GB Paraclimbing team and has made podium at numerous World Cups and World Championships

  • ReVentas is commercialising a novel process to purify currently unrecyclable post-consumer plastic waste, to create a near-virgin polymer. Whilst in the creative phase of running pilot plant trials and developing our process flowsheet, our focus on inherent safety and low OpEx means that we minimise our environmental impact.

Neil Mackay, Snr Business Development Manager, STATS Group

  • Neil has been working for STATS for 6 years and his focus has been on bringing STATS technology to the onshore energy market. Neil started his career as a Trainee Engineer at Halliburton Pipeline and Process services in Aberdeen, before moving to their facility in Stavanger, Norway. Working in the oil and gas industry for over 14 years, Neil has significant pigging, pipeline gel and debris assessment experience, conducting workscopes globally across the entire life-cycle from pre-commissioning to decommissioning. Neil graduated from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh with a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and received Chartered Engineer status from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in 2015.

  • Offshore technology used to isolate hydrocarbon pipelines in need of maintenance was deployed for the first time on the National Gas Transmission system. STATS piggable isolation plug sealed the pressurised 48” pipeline (56 km long / 55 bar) allowing a joint to be replaced and welded. The use of the plug prevented the pipeline from being vented and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 95% compared to venting the pipeline to atmosphere
